I'm happy to share a new project I've been working on recently. These are hand painted tote bags I created with several of Teresa Collins' brand new stencils. I was inspired by a tote bag idea a saw on her design blog.
These stencils are from her new Signature Essentials line and have been a little hard to find. I finally got my hands on them, though! Here are the stencils I used:
I painted the quote with red sateen and red glitter paint. For the stars, I used a silver sateen paint, a silver glitter paint, and both of the red I used on the quote. Here are a few close-ups, and you can click on each pic for an even better view.
I picked Martha Stewart paints for the project. I don't have a lot of experience with craft paints, so I thought this would be a reputable brand. I would give them a mixed review, though. I liked the silver metallic sateen paint quite a bit. The red sateen was a completely different and much thicker texture, though, and it was much harder with which to paint. The glitter was a little too thin, and I had to use 2-3 coats in order to get a good coverage. Overall, I would use another brand if I had the chance.
I love this quote on the front of the tote bag. In order to set it off a little, I decided to paint one line in glitter and the rest of the lines in a sateen paint. The pic below shows the idea a bit better, although these pics don't really do the paint colors - or the bags - any justice. It's prettier in real life!
I made a series of these for my team at the office. I hope they love them (and I hope they are not reading my blog)! I also hope this inspires you to do something new and fun with your crafting.
I've been up to a lot of great things, and I promise to post more projects soon. Until then, happy crafting!
